TOWN CLERK’S REPORT
Items of importance dealt with week commencing 1st July 2019
The Maintenance staff have sprayed the weeds with weedkiller in several locations including West Street. North Street, Bottom of South Street towards Parklands, Central park and New Road. As we now have two staff qualified it will make the process much easier.
As several Councillors are aware we lost some of our bunting a few weeks ago when a lorry caught the line going across from the Town Hall even though the bunting does exceed the legal height. At the same time we assume that the bunting caught the scaffolding pole at the far end of the Enhancement and bent it quite considerably. This will be taken down next week. In its place I have seen an old fashioned Victorian lamppost for £650 at Browns Antiques and I think that would look good there. We will be having a look next week but if there any comments please let me know.
Guinness World Record
The record for the largest Rugby Ball is now well on course and production on the ball has commenced and the smaller rugby balls will be put up next week across the Enhancement. The day for the adjudication has been set for Sunday 15th September and the helicopter will be placing the ball in Central Park at 12.00 pm and the adjudication will take about 2 hours. There is already plenty of media interest and this will kick off in the next couple of weeks. There has been a lot of work that the Council has put in but looking at the proposals for the day and the events that we have arranged already it will certainly put South Molton on the map yet again!
Plastic Free Meeting
There is a meeting with Single Plastic Free Group next Wednesday 10th July at 6.00pm in the Amory Centre Beech Room and all Councillors have been invited to this event.
We have booked a deep clean for the Pannier Market Toilets and the kitchen in the Town Hall. The deep clean for the toilets will take place on Wednesday next in the afternoon.
A letter has been sent to all food outlets in the Town as requested at the last Council Meeting and we have had some replies already. South Molton Waste and Recycling are now taking pictures of the commercial businesses who are depositing their waste there and I will be forwarding those to Councillors- some surprises to be had!
Fire Safety Audits
The fire Brigade have visited our premises regarding fire safety and we are having a detailed inspection of the Pannier Market on 24th July. There are some minor issues that need to be redressed regarding the Amory Centre and Town hall and these are in the process of being addressed.
There are no scheduled meetings next week. The Finance Meeting will be held on Monday 15th July at 6.30pm in the Amory Centre.
Planning Meeting on Tuesday 16th July in the Amory Centre at 6.30pm.
